How does a home protection plan work?
When a covered item breaks down, just follow these simple steps:
- Request Service online or by calling 1 800 776 4663.
- Once your request is received, one of our contractors will contact you to schedule an appointment.
- Your Trade Service Call Fee is due and payable to the contractor when they arrive.
- The contractor will diagnose the problem and contact us.
- American Home Shield will determine whether your problem is covered by your home protection plan, the contractor will repair or replace your equipment.
- American Home Shield will follow up with you by email and/or phone to make sure your problem was resolved to your satisfaction.

Is everything in my home covered by the home protection plan?

How many times can I use my American Home Shield Home Protection Plan?
You can take advantage of your home protection plan as many times as you want during the term of your contract. On average, American Home Shield customers make 2 service requests each year.
What if I have an appliance that just can't be fixed?
If an American Home Shield contractor visits your home and determines your covered item can't be repaired, it will be replaced.
What out-of-pocket expenses will I have?
For each service request, you will pay a $60 Trade Service Call Fee to each contractor of a different trade (plumber, electrician, etc.) who visits your home to diagnose a problem or perform service. There is the possibility of additional costs being associated with the repair or replacement of covered items. Details will be included in your contract.
